About the Course

Seven years after it launched, Eat.Think.Design. is still the only course in the country that teaches systematic innovation and human-centered design in a public health context. Student teams work on design projects with real clients – and on new ventures – at the intersection of food, innovation, and health. Each year, 25 students from a dozen different graduate programs come together to learn about the innovation process through these projects. This year the course will expand its focus to design solutions that use food to positively and substantially impact climate change. Students with and without a professional focus on food, food systems, or climate change are strongly encouraged to apply. We expect sufficient interest from students with expertise in these fields, but we can only be successful with diverse experiences in the cohort. More than 50% of our 175 course alumni dating back to 2011 have come from programs outside of the School of Public Health. We are currently transforming our learning experience to focus on climate change with support from the Center for Teaching and Learning.


If you interested in joining the course, you must attend the first class session, to be held in Wheeler Hall 102 at 4:00pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Students will be admitted to the course from the wait list after the first class session at the discretion of the instructors. Admissions decisions will be made no later than January 23, 2018. Wait list order will not influence admission decisions. Students may not audit the course. This course is restricted to graduate students.
